O-Ton interne Wycliffe Presse:
Highlanders Take Cup with Decisive Win
The Swabian Highlanders capped off an amazing rookie season Tuesday, with a lop-sided 10-2 seventh-game victory over the Temple Czars to win the 2007-08 WTHL Nawn Athletic Cup.
Though the Highlanders barely outshot the Czars 30-28, they greatly dominated the score sheet thanks to smooth passing and precise shooting in every period. Czars got nothing going right from the opening whistle, and could only watch as the Cup slipped from their grasp as the Highlanders quickly built up a lead that just kept growing.
Everything seemed to go in for the Highlanders, including one of the Czars markers, which the Swabians scored on their own net. It was a contest where the Highlanders really got their game going, with a bang-bang style that earned them a remarkable second-place finish in the regular season with a 10-3 record.
Highlanders' big victory Tuesday was one of only two games in the final series that were won by more than 2 goals. The other was their 9-4 victory over the Czars in Game 2. The Czars forced a seventh game with a tight 1-0, last-minute victory in Game 6. But their defensive wall crumbled at the hands of the Highlanders on Tuesday, and they simply had no scoring touch.
The WTHL season is now over, except for its awards lunch noon this Thursday in the Cowan (boardroom). Besides a hearty lunch, the presentation of the Nawn Athletic Cup to the Highlanders, and other individual team awards, there will be a very interesting discussion about a change to a different hockey game model. All teams are urged to attend and to be prepared to vote on the model change, recommended by WTHL commissioners who will make a visual presentation.
